What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that is virtually invisible to the naked eye. The system uses clear aligners to carefully and fully straighten teeth, eliminating crowding, misalignment and uneven spacing. Invisalign is ideal for the majority of patients wanting clear braces. Invisalign treatment can take anywhere from a few months to about two years.
Why would Invisalign be necessary?
Invisalign might be a better option for teens and adults who know that they need braces, but who don’t want the bulk of metal brackets and wiring. Invisalign is a great way to eliminate the look of crowded or misaligned teeth. This can have an impact on your self-esteem while improving the way you’re able to brush and floss each day. Invisalign should be worn for about 22 hours every day in order for it to be effective.
Who is a candidate for Invisalign?
Dr. Sylvie Lam can examine your teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment. Because Invisalign is removable, it might not be the best choice for younger kids who would be able to remove and not replace their aligners. If you have severe orthodontic problems, we may suggest additional or alternative treatment. However, Invisalign is great for most teens and adults wanting a clear brace option.
What happens during Invisalign treatment?
The Invisalign treatment process will begin with impressions, an exam and a consultation with Dr. Sylvie Lam. The doctor will create a treatment plan specific to your smile needs. You will then be given your first set of Invisalign aligners made using the impressions that were taken. You will then have to wear these Invisalign aligners for about 22 hours each day. They should be removed only when eating, brushing and flossing. You will need to then come back in after a few weeks to have new Invisalign trays made.
